Project 12: Doughnut Painting

Work on in class on April 25 and 27
Due as part of Portfolio 2 on May 4

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Red, yellow, blue, black and white acrylic paint
Stretched canvas, any size
Graphite pencil
Eraser
Brushes
Palette knife
Palette paper
Masking tape
Water cups
Paper towels

DIRECTIONS:

Each group of four students will be given a bag of white powdered donuts. As a group, you will decide how to arrange them into a still-life setup. Then you will each paint them onto your canvas.

You are encouraged to play with color, texture and composition (i.e. placement of the objects) as much as possible.

At the same time, however, your primary objective is to USE TONE to make the doughnuts look THREE-DIMENSIONAL, as we have practiced throughout the semester. Remember to think of the doughnuts as TIRES (as demonstrated in class), with a distinct top and/or bottom plane and side plans. Also remember to demonstrate in your painting that all the doughnuts are the SAME SIZE.

GRADE WILL BE BASED ON:

Three-dimensional appearance of objects
Creative use of color, texture and/or composition
Effort spent on project
Attention to detail
