DIRECTIONS:

This project will be preceded by a class session devoted to instruction and practice in paint application and color mixing.

To create this project, go to Google Images and search under “black and white pattern” and/or “quilting pattern.” Select a pattern that is not too simple and not too complex.

Draw this pattern or a derivation of it onto a section of white drawing paper that is the same size as one-quarter of the size of your stretched canvas (e.g. if your canvas is 16” x 20”, your pattern drawing should be 8” x 10”). The design may be oriented vertically or horizontally.

Divide your stretched canvas into four sections using pencil and eraser.

Transfer your drawing onto each section of the canvas using tracing paper (provided) and pencil.

Paint in the four sections as follows:

1.            The first section will be painted using only PRIMARY COLORS.

2.            Select a color. Based on this color, the second quarter will have a MONOCHROMATIC color scheme (tints and shades).

3.            Based on this color, the third quarter will have an ANALOGOUS color scheme (3 colors touching on color wheel).

4.            Based on this color, the fourth quarter will have a COMPLEMENTARY color scheme (colors opposite one another on the color wheel).

GRADE WILL BE BASED ON:

Interesting design chosen
Color schemes follow guidelines in directions
Care in execution
Effort spent on project, Following directions.
